Why do people write? (the additional assignment I chose) I chose this assignment because I actually enjoyed responding to this discussion question.

I absolutely love this question. I myself am a writer, so the reasons for writing are endless for me. I know from personal experience that sometimes people become writers, or just write for a hobby, because it's almost like an itch you can't scratch. If there is a lot going on in your head then there has to be a way to release it, and a lot of people take to writing when this happens. I feel that might be what the surgeon was feeling, in order for him to get his feelings and professional opinion out he decided to write it down. I know that this is why I tend to write. My head gets so filled up with different idea's and thoughts that I write stories. It's almost like it completely clears my head.

Some people may write because it's all they've ever done. A favorite author of mine, L.J. Smith, says that she has been an author ever since she was five. She would write poetry. She even goes on to say that she never decided to be an author, it's what she has always been. (You can find her saying that here: http://www.ljanesmith.net/www/author/faq)
I think everyone has a different reason to write, and there is always some driving force behind it. Mostly I think it's because they have something that they need to get out of their head, or because they have something worth writing about. It doesn't matter if they are a journalist, a fiction writer, or non-fiction, whatever it is they have something worth reading.

I was looking on the web to find why people write and I came across this blog posting. I think it describes it very well: http://sue-elizabeth.blogspot.com/2009/03/why-do-people-write.html

This is an article I found about why people write book: http://www.articlesbase.com/writing-articles/why-do-people-write-books-518460.html
